Product with a range of variable elements need to be configured, a product configurator is a wizard that allows the user the select from any variable of any given element of a product in a desirable combination. The resulting configured product is usually more atractive to the user and thus there is a greater chance that  they will pruchase the product, therefore a purchase or save to basket is usually part of the wizard.
